We had the opportunity to hear from Sr. Ann McManamon, H.M. of the Dorothy Day House on how the organization is helping to feed those in need during Covid-19.
To support this important work, Rotary Club of Youngstown President Samantha Turner presented Sr. McManamon with a $1,500 check for the purchase, preparation, and packaging of food for takeout for its clients.
A particularly inspiring story in the August issue is the story of 27-year old Binish Desai who was a Rotary exchange student in the U. S. With other young professionals he established a new Rotary Club, chartered in 2018.
Among their projects are “the creation of a woman’s empowerment center, a facility where women acquire the skills to make a better life for themselves and their families.”
This story, like all issues of The Rotarian, expand our knowledge of the places in which Rotarians are at work and of the variety of professions and work that others do that are essential to our well being. We encourage you to make time to read it.
This week, we become better acquainted with Barbara Brothers, whose passion for education continues beyond her career. She loves the Youngstown of today and shares great stories about the Youngstown of her childhood, including trolley car rides into downtown.
