Last Week's Meeting

Ian Benniston, executive director of Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp., spoke to the group about the multifaceted neighborhood development organization's efforts about the city.
Launched in 2009 in partnership with the City of Youngstown and The Raymond John Wean Foundation, this vital group has worked to transform neighborhoods into meaningful places where people invest time, money, and energy into their homes and neighborhoods; where neighbors have the capacity to manage day-to-day issues; and where neighbors feel confident about the future of their neighborhood.

INSIDE ROTARY MAGAZINE

Women Leading Rotary
By Barbara Brothers
Women's expanding role in the leadership of Rotary is a theme in the October issue of Rotary. Rosetti Nabbumba Nayenga serves as the governor of District 9211 (Uganda and Tanzania) and is the first Ugandan woman to lead a district in Rotary (pictured here). Sylvia Whitlock of California is the first woman to serve as president of a Rotary Club (1987).  Deepa Willingham is both the past president of the Rotary Club of Santa Ynex Valley and of District 5240.  She was a student of Mother Teresa and witnessed the crippling poverty and violence of religious bigotry that was and is life in Kolkata.  Read her story to learn how one person can embody “service above self” and make a difference (p. 32).
This story, like all issues of The Rotary, expand our knowledge of the places in which Rotarians are at work and of the variety of professions and work that others do that are essential to our well being. We encourage you to make time to read it.
