It is with the heaviest of hearts that I share the sad news that the President-elect of Rotary International, Sam F. Owori, died last night as a result of post-operative complications from a planned surgery.
In this difficult time, I ask you to keep his wife, Norah, the Owori family, and Sam’s millions of friends around the world in your thoughts.
Sam was a special person in so many ways, and his unexpected death is a huge loss to Rotary, his community, and the world. We will provide more details on plans to celebrate his life as they become available.
From the perspective of Rotary leadership, we will share information on the impact and the path forward as a result of Sam’s passing. In addition, we are establishing a memorial fund in Sam’s honor and will provide further details soon.
There will be a farewell open house for departing Rotarian and Library Director Heidi Daniel at the Canfield Branch Library, by the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County. Refreshments will be served.

District 6650 Governor for 2017-2018, Mike Raulin, will have his official visit to our Club on Wednesday, July 26th, at Noon. We hope to pack the house in support of DG Mike and to hear about his goals and priorities for this coming year!

PELOTONIA 2017
Pelotonia 2017 is just around the corner!!! Saturday, August 5, is the day we will continue our fight against cancer.
Gina and Paul Garchar will be riding 100 miles while raising money for the James Cancer Center at Ohio State University to find a cure for cancer.
Above we are standing in front of the memorial wall with almost 100 names of loved ones and friends who we honor with our ride each year.
Every dollar will help us reach our goal of $4,000 which goes straight to cutting edge cancer research at the James Cancer Center. The James staff use these dollars to fund research and projects for which there may not be any other funding.
We were introduced to the James Cancer Center when Gina’s brother Reno “Jay” Reda received care there, unfortunately he passed in February 2011.

President Frank and PP and PDG Debbie Esbenshade installed John Fahnert, President-Elect, and Dave Stillwagon, Vice President, in their respective offices.
We officially welcomed new member Jim Freeze! Jim is the Executive Director of Goodwill Industries. He and his wife, Grace, live in Boardman with their two sons.
Chuck Andrean and his wife, Yong-Hee, visited our Club's weekly meeting with a banner from his home club in Rancho Bernardo, California. Chuck is a Mahoning Valley native and alumnus of Youngstown State University.
Our guest speaker was Dianne Fry, Mahoning County Dog Warden. Dianne explained in detail the many programs and services her department offers, and presented plans for the new Mahoning County shelter being built on Meridian Road.
This Week's Program: We will welcome Susan Evans, a member and Past President of the Bradford (PA) Rotary Club, an ovarian cancer survivor and author of the book Don't Write the Obituary Yet.
This Week's Lunch Menu: Stuffed peppers, roasted vegetables with quinoa, garden salad, rolls with butter; vegetarian entrée option is broccoli with the same sides.
