Rotary Last WeekTo those Rotarians who were traveling with Ana Torres in Ireland and Scotland, or had other commitments on May 7, we missed you – and you missed a fun meeting! Following a taco bar luncheon by Chef Christopher Bonacci, the Great Rotary Bake Off commenced. Eight Rotarians contributed these yummy treats: Lavender Tea Cake; Black Forest Cake; Lime Bars; Lemon Coconut Almond Cake; Lemon & Lime Bars, Apple Pear Strudel; and Lemon Blueberry Cookies.
Rotarians sample it all and voted with dollar bills for their favorites. The glass Mason jars in front of each tray filled up quickly. Deb Flora’s lemon blueberry cookies edged out Jack Kravitz’s apple pear strudel by a single dollar. The big winner was RCY’s Peace Pole Project Fund, which grew by $153 in bake off proceeds. Well done, Elisha Samra and Jack Kravitz! Kravitz also took the podium with Mike Latessa, his Beerfest co-chair of the last two years, and future Beerfest co-chair Troy Rhoades, to announce the net proceeds of our 2025 craft beer and wine festival. It amounted to $41,968 – well beyond the previous high-water mark of about $29,000. The Beerfest committee exceeded its own goal of $33,000 in sponsorships, and premium tickets sold extremely well, Kravitz noted. Rhoades stressed the multi-value proposition of Beerfest – we raise money for our community grant program while building camaraderie among members who volunteer at the event.

Brendan Considine shared his good news: He will be the new principal at Cardinal Mooney High School, effective July 1. Congratulations, Brendan! Rotarians talked a little baseball during the Downtown Service Clubs luncheon on May 8 at the YMCA. Bob DiBiasio of the Cleveland Guardians was the speaker.
