This month Rotary International asks us to Imagine Rotary by developing new members. Explore the possibilities with us at our meeting Wednesday at noon at Wick Park or virtually via Zoom.
John Vargo will give a preview of the YSU Football team’s season, which begins at home Thursday night vs. Valparaiso. Vargo is the Manager of Corporate Hospitality and Group Sales in the Athletics Department and a seasoned news reporter.
A vote to change the club’s Bylaws, which was scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed. More information will be forthcoming.

Last Week's Meeting
Rotarians entered the main-floor meeting room of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County on Aug. 23 to music by violinist Brendan Considine. A new RCY member, Brendan earned a master’s degree in music at YSU. He performs with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra, Greenville Symphony, Warren Philharmonic and Opera Western Reserve.
President Deanna Rossi and Josh Prest shared a thank-you from Operation White Stork, the U.S.-based humanitarian organization that has delivered medical supplies and evacuated vulnerable people in Ukraine during the Russian-Ukrainian war. In appreciation of RCY’s financial contribution, the charity also sent a full-sized Ukraine flag.
New members Ana Torres and Gavin Switzer received their round badges. Deb Esbenshade received a perfect attendance award and explained how it works. If you can’t attend a weekly Wednesday lunch meeting, you can earn credit by working on a committee, attending another club’s meeting, or attending an online makeup meeting. Don Foley is club secretary this year. Email him when you are making up for missing a Wednesday meeting. Perfect attendance is not required but is recognized annually.
President Deanna and Scott Schulick continued the Club Runner tutorial with guidance on how to send email to all members and look up committees. Scott and Dave Stillwagon shared news that Operation Warm has now provided coats to 5 million children across North America over the last 24 years. RCY will order coats for Youngstown students on or before Sept. 15. Please make your contribution ASAP.
Also last week, a Fireside Chat brought new and veteran members to the home of President Deanna and Gregg Rossi. Rotarians mingled with Downtown Youngstown Partnership supporters at Prima Cucina restaurant.
NEW DATE FOR GUARDIANS GAME
If you bought tickets to attend the End Polio Now fundraiser at the Aug. 17 Cleveland Guardians game, which was postponed because of rain, then the game has been rescheduled for 6:10 p.m. Sept. 26. A pre-game parade will begin at 5:15 p.m. The Guardians will host the Cincinnati Reds.
Event organizers will send new tickets for the game and Terrace Club seating. Any ticket holder who cannot attend on Sept. 26 is encouraged to sell their new tickets (not the old ones).

RCY ANNUAL CLUB STEAK FRY
For longtime members, the Steak Fry is one of the most beloved annual events. For newer members, it is a great way to become part of one of the club's longest standing traditions and meet fellow members. It is a wonderful night of food, fellowship and friendship. Spouses and guests are welcome. The Steak Fry will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Pioneer Pavilion on Horseshoe Bend in Mill Creek MetroParks, 870 Old Furnace Road, Youngstown OH 44511.
The RCY Board is seeking members’ input as it relates to our Wednesday meetings. Your answers to these questions and additional comments will be valuable to club leaders as to whether changes or potential enhancements will improve the weekly meeting experience.

JOIN ROTARY DISTRICT 6650 TEAM FOR MILES FOR MONARCHS
Help Support Monarch Joint Venture
Every year in the fall, millions of monarch butterflies embark on a migration from the northern U.S. and Canada to central Mexico and in the spring, set out to return north after a long winter.
Miles for Monarchs is a way for individuals, teams, and the entire collective of participants to journey the same 3,000 miles of this migration virtually with the spring and fall campaigns representing the seasonal migrations of monarchs. The 2023 online campaign is designed to engage participants in personal wellness while supporting monarch conservation.
The spring "migration" was hosted from May 22 - June 25. The fall "migration" is being hosted NOW - from August 28 - October 1.
Join our team, track your mileage, get out into nature, and learn from conservation experts from the Monarch Joint Venture.
Everyone - members, and nonmembers alike, is welcome to join team Rotary 6650 as we track our miles to raise awareness about the monarch migration and their vital role in our ecosystem.
The $14 registration fee will aid Operation Pollination and MJV's mission to conserve monarch butterflies and other pollinators by funding habitat conservation, science, education, and partnership programming.
Here's how you can get involved:
· Register: Visit Miles for Monarchs and click the register button in the upper right. After a few steps you can enter “Rotary 6650” as your team/family name.
· Log Your Miles: Submit weekly miles from your activity: walk, run, roll, bike, paddle, swim, anything self-propelled – even yoga and gardening! * MJV will update weekly totals via email.
· Spread the Word: Take lots of photos and share your journey on social media using the hashtag #Rotary6650ForMonarchs and #MilesForMonarchs to inspire friends, family, and colleagues to join our cause.
